The Charleston Fire Department hit the streets Wednesday night to educate the community about the dangers of carbon monoxide.
Officers handed out flyers to retailers around the city. The fliers contain information regarding carbon monoxide safety tips, poisoning symptoms and other facts.
If you use fuels such as coal, natural gas, propane or other combustibles to heat your home or business, it is important to have carbon monoxide detectors and check them regularly, according to officials.
"With the weather getting colder this week - (we wanted) to go a head and put out a release for the public to know that there are different things that can create carbon monoxide in their homes and also what kind of symptoms to look for if they would have a problem," said Lt. Alisha Samples, with the Charleston Fire Department.
