Charleston Catholic High's boy's basketball team has a brainy backcourt.
Alex Casingal and Haston Gerencir both have 4.2 grade point averages. Both have been instrumental in Catholic's 12-3 season.
"We're doing pretty well this year," Casingal said. "We're 12-3. We're just getting rolling."
The duo works well together, Gerencir said.
"We're a dynamic team," he said.
They are dynamic on the court and off. These two have managed to juggle the challenges of athletics and academics.
"It's tough, if we have early practice, I do all my homework after, it takes a while," Gerencir said. "If you have late practice you split it up. Just gotta balance it out as best you can."
Focus is the name of their game, Casingal said.
"When you come to practice, you just forget everything and focus on practice," he said. "And as soon as you're done, go home and do your homework, get everything done and get some rest."
Getting rest is a rare thing for this pair. They are constantly looking to improve, Casingal said.
"Everybody else that's come before me set a good role model example for me and coach of course, he's on me all the time to get better," he said.
