The company that owns the Shops at Kanawha has filed chapter 11 bankruptcy.

KM Associates LLC filed the bankruptcy petition was filed with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Charleston Jan. 30, according to court documents. The company listed assets of $17.3 million and debts of $26.5 million.

Under chapter 11 protection, the company can continue operating while reorganizing to settle debts.
