Ohioans head to polls for Super Tuesday primary

Posted: Updated:

The polls in Ohio have opened for the 2012 Super Tuesday primary election.

The polls opened at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m.

This year, the most closely watched raced likely is the Republican presidential race. Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul will face off in that contest. President Barrack Obama is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

For the U.S. Senate, incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, also is running unopposed for his party's nomination. But a slew of Republicans are in the race: Russell Bliss Jr., David Dodt, Donna Glisman, Eric Gregory, Josh Mandel and Michael Pryce.

Green party members Joseph DeMare and Anita Rios and Liberarian John Fockler round out the field.

For the U.S. House, WOWK-TV will be watching Districts 2 and 6. For the Ohio Senate, we'll watch the races in District 14. In District 17, Republican incumbent Troy Balerson and Democrat Teresa M. Scarmack are running unopposed.

We'll watch Ohio House of Representatives District 87. In District 89 and 92, there are no contested races.
