HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -

A Huntington man is accused of holding his 2-year-old daughter in front of him as a shield during a standoff with Huntington police, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers were called to the home at 822 Ninth St. W at about 1:55 a.m. for a domestic dispute.  According to the criminal complaint, a woman on scene was found with a bloody nose.  She allegedly was fighting with her husband and identified herself as the wife of Barry Linton James, 47.

Huntington police tried to contact James but he yelled "get off my porch or I'll shoot you."  James approached the door several times while officers were outside, often making threats to them. At one point, James held his 2-year-old daughter in front of him as a human shield.

The last time James approached the door officers rushed in and engaged in a brief struggle before arresting him.

James faces charges of domestic battery, assault, child neglect creating risk of injury, two counts of obstruction of justice and two counts of battery on police.
