UPDATE

Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies arrested Crystal Jordan Friday afternoon on a charge of child neglect resulting in death, according to a news release.

Kolton Zander Jordan, 16 months, died Thursday after falling into a bathtub in her home. The baby's age previously was thought to be 18 months.

Crystal Jordan told investigators that she had used methamphetamine earlier in the day and later fell asleep. The child died while she was asleep, the news release states. She also told police she has been a repeat illicit drug user during the past year.

ORIGINAL STORY

A baby died in a Kanawha County home Thursday afternoon.

The baby's father, Josh Jordan, came home after 2:30 p.m. and heard the dog barking in the family's bathroom, Kanawha County Sheriff's Department Lt. Sean Crosier said. In the bathroom, he found his 18-month-old son unresponsive.

Jordan ran outside and yelled for a neighbor, who called 911, Crosier said.

The baby's mother, Crystal Jordan, 28, had been asleep, but woke up when she heard the yelling, he said. Investigators believe that, while she was asleep, the boy made his way to a bathtub, fell into the water and drowned, Crosier said.

The baby is at the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, he said.
