Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will join the ranks of West Virginia politicians asked to participate in NASCAR races.

This Sunday, Tomblin will be the grand marshal for the Coca-Cola 600 race, a 600-mile Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina dubbed "Let Freedom Race."

Tomblin will tour the garage and pit, attend military appreciation in-field events along with the official drivers meeting, address the expected crowd of more than 140,000 and drive the lead car in the race.

According to the Associated Press, Gov. Joe Manchin was the honorary starter for the same race in 2006 and House Speaker Rick Thompson was given the duties in 2008.
