A man is charged with first degree sexual assault, accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.
The Scioto County Sheriff's Office said that the alleged victim met 37-year-old Gene Zimmerman in an online chat room.
During their online conversation, Zimmerman is accused of telling the teenage girl that he was going to take her to a friend's house in Ashland, Kentucky.
The victim only knew Zimmerman by his screen name, "bubbles", according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The teen told deputies that she was instead taken to an apartment in Haverhill, Ohio where she was sexually assaulted.
The victim was treated at Southern Ohio Medical Center then sent to Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe Ohio.
Gene Zimmerman is being held in the Scioto County jail on a $50,000 bond.
Sheriff Marty Donini said this is still an ongoing investigation and more charges could be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury on a later date.
Zimmerman is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on June 4.
