WV man hitchhiking across US for book titled ‘The Kindness of America' shot in MT

A West Virginia man was shot while hitchhiking in Montana this past weekend.

Raymond Dolin, 39, was hitchhiking his way across the country for a book titled "The Kindness of America," according to The Billings Gazette and KXLH-TV. Neither report stated Dolin's hometown.

Dolin was waiting for a ride along state Highway 2 near Glasgow, Mont., at about 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Gazette article.

A man drove up and shot him in the arm, according to the KXLH-TV report.

Dolin was able to flag down a passing vehicle after being shot, the Gazette reported. Officials from surrounding counties, the Montana Highway Patrol, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Fort Peck tribal authorities searched for the shooter.

Tribal officers located the suspect's vehicle are arrested Charles Lloyd Danielson III, 52, of Washington, Mont., the newspaper reported. The shooting appears to have been random.
