The weather wasn't perfect this weekend, but that didn't stop several boaters from heading out on the water.
Some seasoned boaters say this time of year, when the river is crowded, staying safe is especially important.
They say doing things like wearing life jackets, learning the rules of the river and looking out for other boaters are just some of the keys to having a good day out on the water.
"Well, you always wear your life jacket and make sure you have all of your other safety equipment, floating devices," said Sam Cochran.
To make sure people know what to do when they are out on the water, West Virginia requires anyone born on or after Dec. 31, 1986, to pass a boater safety course before they can operate a boat.
