Demolition begins on Memorial Field House - WOWK 13 Charleston, Huntington WV News, Weather, Sports

Crews were out today to start demolition on the old Veterans Memorial Field House in Huntington.

The building is being torn down to make room for a new soccer field and parking lot for Marshall University.

The Field House was built in 1950 and at the time was the largest venue for entertainment in the city until the Big Sandy Superstore arena was built in 1976.

The plaque on the Fifth Avenue side dedicating the building to Veterans was removed in five pieces and will be placed in an area near the new facilities to honor veterans.
