A man from Ohio is facing a long list of charges after a chase that deputies say could have been deadly.

Kenova Police Chief Bud Lett said it was a busy Sunday afternoon, all because of John McGlone, 29.

Proctorville, Ohio, police said McGlone drove into Kenova after stealing a car from a former co-worker's house.  An officer noticed the stolen car near Chestnut Street and tried to pull him over.  Police said he didn't stop and kept driving.

"The vehicle went south on (Route) 75 and began to pick up speed, and then got on the Interstate, I-64 eastbound," Lett said.

The chase got dangerous when McGlone high-tailed it on to the Interstate with speeds reaching 100 mph.

"Several people could have been killed. The people that do this have no disregard for the public out there, the officers, of their own life. It's a very dangerous situation when these people decide to run from the police. It's a very dangerous situation," Lett said.

McGlone's luck ran out when he entered Cabell County.   He flipped his car after he tried to avoid driving over spike strips the Cabell County Sheriff's Department threw onto the road.

"Even though the suspect vehicle did not run over the strips, it stopped the pursuit because the suspects actions, it caused his vehicle to overturn in the avoidance of the spike strip," said Sheriff Tom McComas.

Four drivers, including a Kenova Police officer, unintentionally ran over the strips and ended up with flat tires.

McComas said the strips were the safest way to get McGlone off of the road into a pair of handcuffs.

"Anytime that no on gets hurt of injured, and you arrest the suspect, that's a good ending to the story," he said.

The Cabell County Sheriff's Department charged McGlone with attempted murder of a police officer, fleeing in a vehicle, fleeing on foot, obstruction and receiving and transferring stolen property.

Kenova and Proctorville police filed additional charges against McGlone, including grand theft, burglary, breaking and entering, and fleeing.

He's in the Western Regional Jail with bail set at $245,000.
