The members of the Big Coal Branch of the Coal River Group have put together a major volunteer effort to rid the Big Coal River of tires.
The WV REAP along with the Boone County Commission and an expected 75 volunteers will float down river about three miles from Ashford to Dartmont.
Volunteers will meet at the Ashford church at 10 a.m. Saturday and have boats ready to fill up with tires.
Up to 20 canoes will be used to hold and transport the tires to the Dartmont collection location where DEP workers will pick them up.
The event is one of the biggest cleanups in the community.
