WINFIELD, West Virginia -

Learning will take on new meaning at Putnam County Schools this fall.

For every subject middle and high school students will also be graded on their work ethic and communications skills.

School leaders say the purpose is to change negative behavior to positive behavior to make students more productive in collage and the workforce.

The move is getting an interesting reaction from students.

"Work ethic I think is a good thing, but communication skills I don't know because some of the more shy students will have trouble with that like communicating with peers," said Lane Plumley, a senior at Hurricane High School.

"I think it depends on who it is.  Some people might not have the greatest work ethic so it might hurt their grade whereas otherwise they may be a good student.  Personally, I think it's a good idea," said Nick Kegley, a senior at Hurricane High School.

School leaders are still working out some of the details like the percentage the two areas will count towards the student grade.
