A new professorship will help support research in dementia.
Dr. Shirley Neitch has been named the inaugural Maier Clinical Research Professor at the Marshall University School of Medicine.
It will support research investigating the causes, management and treatment of dementia.
General Corporation donated $1 million for establishment of the professorship.
That donation was matched dollar for dollar by the "Bucks for Brains" West Virginia Research Trust Fund.
"The disease is a horrible health problem in this country. It is devastating to the person and stressful to families and other caregivers," said Neitch.
Neitch said a couple of the research projects are already underway.
