Camp exposes kids to Japanese culture

Posted: Updated:

About 60 kids are taking part in a Japanese Immersion Camp at Guyandotte Elementary.

The kids are learning about  the Japanese culture with an emphasis on language, art, food and music.

They have been getting language lessons using basic Japanese vocabulary.

The students have had authentic Japanese lunches and learned about school life for Japanese students.

Organizers say its the first camp of its kind in Cabell County and they say its a great way to expose kids to a different way of life.

"They get to learn about those that are different than them and realize that different is not bad," said coordinator Debbie Nicholson.

The camp will wrap up on Friday with a presentation to their parents about what they've learned.
