Bill Bissett, Kentucky Coal Association President, issued a statement to 13News Thursday in response to Arch Coal's announcement of layoffs.
"Today's
events have serious economic repercussions, not just in Eastern
Kentucky coalfields, but across the Commonwealth. For every one miner,
three other Kentucky jobs depend on that miner for their livelihood, so
this impact will affect all of us."
"Why is this happening? You have a variety of
factors: cheap natural gas, a mild winter and summer, but make no
mistake that another major factor is an administration in Washington
that is trying to move this country away from coal by any means
necessary."
