Movies planned at Wesleyan planetarium

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia Wesleyan College will host planetarium shows on the first and third Saturdays of July and August. All shows are in the planetarium, located on the second floor of Christopher Hall, and begin at 8 p.m. and last approximately one hour.

The July 7 show features the IMAX movie "Destiny in Space," a tribute to the spirit of exploring the solar system. Viewers will join astronauts as they orbit the Earth, soar above Mars and Venus, and find planets orbiting distant stars.

"Curious George Rocket Ride" will be shown July 21. In the film, Curious George discovers that gravity doesn't work in space as it does on Earth.

Experience the landing and exploration of Apollo 12 on Aug. 4. "The Incredible Journey of Apollo 12" shows astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean land on the moon Nov. 19, 1969, and their discoveries.

Finally, on Aug. 18, commemorate the 50th anniversary of Friendship 7 with a program about John Glenn's historic orbit.

Admission to the shows are $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Children younger than 18 are free when accompanied by an adult. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Weather permitting, there will be telescope observing after the shows.
