West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for boaters under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During Operation Dry Water 2012, law enforcement in West Virginia will participate in the nationwide campaign to enforce Boating Under the Influence (BUI) laws from June 22- 24.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard's 2011 Boating Statistics, recreational boating fatalities spiked since 1998. The statistics show that BUI was a contributing factor.
The boater's blood alcohol content can not exceed the state limit of .08. The consequences for BUI includes fines and jail time.
