The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office is warning people about calling in false reports to the department.

Deputies responded with medical personnel from the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority on Monday morning to a home in London. The man at 111 Blue Stream Drive called from just before 1:30 a.m. The caller told emergency responders that he'd overdosed on Oxycontin and was having chest pains, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

When EMS and deputies arrived, the caller denied having overdosed or having chest pains. Instead, he told deputies that he just wanted to go to C.A.R.E.S. to eat and sleep. He also gave a false name of Bobo to authorities, according to deputies.

Deputies identified the man as Darrell Brown, 53, of London. He's been arrested and charged with reporting a false emergency, obstructing an officer and public intoxication. Brown was taken to the South Central Regional Jail.

The sheriff's office said not only is a false call a waste of taxpayer money, but also puts first responders at risk for no reason. They place their own lives in danger as well as people along the route, according to a news release from the department.
