Charleston, W.Va. -- Former West Virginia Secretary of State Betty Ireland has been appointed West Virginia State Director and also Board Member of the prestigious "Maggie's List."

Founded as an outlet of support for fiscally conservative female candidates for the United States Congress, Maggie's List also searches for and develops women, in and out of elected office, who may wish to run for federal office in future elections.

Ms. Ireland's vast and respected experience in business and state government brought her to the attention of Sandra Mortham, former Florida Secretary of State and current Chair of Maggie's List, and Carole Jean Jordan, former Chair of the State of Florida GOP.

"We are thrilled to have Betty Ireland join our Board of Directors and take on the State Director's position for Maggie's List in West Virginia.  Betty's reputation and past experiences make her an ideal individual to assist us in our mission to elect more fiscally conservative women to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate," stated Ms. Mortham.

Maggie's List, named for the legendary Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman ever elected to both houses of Congress, will not just endorse women because they are women.  A belief in fiscal conservatism will be paramount.  Ms. Ireland's responsibilities will include identifying and vetting fiscally conservative women who seek federal office.

"Betty Ireland's intelligence, experience and drive to make our Congress as strong as it should be makes her the perfect person to lead Maggie's List in our state," said Conrad Lucas, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. "I have known and worked with Betty for many years. She is a tireless advocate for West Virginia, and I am excited to work with her and elect more fiscally conservative women to represent our great state."

"I am honored to be asked to serve as West Virginia's Director for Maggie's List and also to sit on their Board of Directors," said Ireland.  "I look forward to working with Sandy Mortham and all the other state directors to seek out and encourage fiscally conservative women to run for the United State Congress."
