
Human trafficking is now a first degree felony in Ohio punishable of up to 15 years in prison.
The measure signed today by Governor John Kasich, also creates a fund to help victims who are often forced into the sex trade or pushed to work in the fields, restaurants or other sweatshop type jobs.
This law created a path for the victims to have their records expunged if they have prostitution or solicitation charges as a result of being forced into the sex trade.
The governor and lawmakers including Teresa Fedor and Mark Wagoner say this is a true example of Republicans and Democrats setting aside their differences for a common cause.
