The Huntington Salvation Army announced it will operate as a cooling station Friday due to extreme temperatures.
Major Matt Riley said the fellowship hall will be open to the public for anyone who needs to come in and cool off.
Riley said they will serve cold drinks, a lunch, and people can watch movies and stay out of the heat.
He said some may not know extreme temperatures are here due to lack of television or radio and that can make for a dangerous situation.
Major Riley said they may let some stay the night on cots if the weather refuses to cool down.
The Salvation Army is working in partnership with the Huntington City Mission.
Workers will also be at the Huntington riverfront distributing cold drinks throughout the day.
Workers said the cooling station may be open for a few days.
