The preliminary competition is over, and now it's time for the crowning moment of the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant.
Thursday evening preliminary winners focused on community service and personality traits of the contestants. Miss Tucker County, Morgan Smith, was named Miss Congeniality. Kaitlin Gates, Miss Harrison County, received the Four Points of the Crown award. The winner of the annual Melanne Pennington Award was Jackie Riggleman, Miss Appalachia.
The preliminary winners during Wednesday's competition were Miss Kanawha Valley, Miranda Harrison and Miss Mountaineer, Maggie Power in talent. The winner in the swimsuit competition was Miss Harrison County, Kaitlin Gates.
The preliminary winner in swimsuit on Tuesday was Miss Northeastern, Olivia Staubs. The preliminary winners in evening wear were Miss Morgantown, Makayla Lewis and Miss Berkeley County, Taylor Martin.
Competition will end with the crowning of a new Miss West Virginia and West Virginia's Outstanding Teen on Friday, June 29 at the Morgantown Event Center. It will webcast beginning at 9 p.m. You can watch by following this link.
The crowning of the new Miss West Virginia will be telecast live on West Virginia Media Stations across the state. Viewers can watch the crowning on WOWK-TV, 13News at 11.
Contestants have already won a local preliminary pageant competition to represent their area in the state pageant. The new Miss West Virginia will go on to represent the state in the Miss America Pageant. Contestants earn the opportunity for college scholarships through the program, one of the largest of the its kind for young women in the world.
Contestants also spend time in their communities, working on public service projects and serving as an ambassador for The Children's Miracle Network.
