2 WV men in serious condition after small plane crash in OH

Posted: Updated:

Two West Virginia men were injured Thursday in a small plane crash in northeast Ohio.

Floyd S. Pierson, 60, of Milton, was piloting the 1957 Piper Apache twin-engine plane near Farmerstown, when he had to crash land in a field, officials said.

Charles W. Stevens, of Charleston, was a passenger in the plane, according to officials. Both were taken to Akron General Hospital. Both were listed in serious condition early this morning.

Pierson told Holmes County Sheriff's deputies he had been hired to fly the plane from the Akron-Canton Airport to its new owner in Charleston, officials said. He told them he had to shut down one engine and the other had problems, so he had to crash-land.

Local and federal officials are investigating what caused the engine failure.
