New FBI facility opens in downtown Charleston

It's an agency known for its secrecy, but on Thursday the FBI revealed something new.

The FBI officially opened its new building in Charleston and it was dedicated in memory of Special Agent Jerry Dove.

Dove was a Charleston native who was killed in the line of duty. A memorial to Dove's memory was unveiled during the ceremony.

But according to officials, the new building is more in keeping with today's technology needs.

"You know, we're very excited to have this, actually. We've been looking forward to this for a while. Everybody here has been excited, coming over, bringing our stuff in and putting everything up. It's kinda nice and I was telling somebody earlier, the only complaint we have is, how it's hard to find each other. The building is so big, we have to walk around and look to see where everybody is," said Chris Courtright, a special agent with the FBI.

The FBI outgrew its old facility, previously located next to the Southside Bridge in downtown Charleston.
