St. Albans celebrates Riverfest 2012

St. Albans is celebrating its river heritage with an annual tradition. The 18th Riverfest began Thursday night at St. Albans Roadside Park.

There are all kinds of events, activities, food vendors and entertainers scheduled to take part in the festivities.

On Friday, a kiddie tractor pull, a car show and a concert by the Esquires will headline the events.

"There are so many fun things going this week. We have a car show, a parade, so many different things here for the family and meeting people and so many venders giving stuff away, and the food great," said Cassie Rashell Taylor, Miss St. Albans Riverfest Teen Queen.

The parade is Saturday at 11 a.m. Participants should line up at 10 a.m. behind BB&T on 5th Avenue. The parade will follow 6th Avenue and end at the Loop.

People can also take one-hour tours on the Kanawha River aboard the sternwheeler "The Spirit of West Virginia". Captain Dick Daugherty will share some of the stories the river. Rides are $12.50 for adults, $10 for seniors and veterans and $7.50 for kids under 10. A special extended fireworks cruise for adults will be offered Saturday night for $25 per person.
