Much of West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio is under a heat advisory again today, with temperatures expected to reach near 100.
The heat index, which accounts for humidity, will make it feel like 100-103 across the region.
The National Weather Service is calling for "record-breaking heat" to move eastward through the weekend.
Health officials recommend drinking plenty of non-alcoholic, decaffeinated fluids if you must be outdoors while the weather is this hot. They recommend staying out of the sun as much as possible.
For those who are outdoors, the National Weather Service offers some warning signs for heat disorders:
Heat exhaustion: Symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin, thready pulse, fainting and vomiting. Anybody with those symptoms should get out of the sun, lay down and loosen clothing. Cool, wet cloths should be applied. Water can be tried, but discontinue if vomiting occurs. If that happens, seek medical help.
Heat stroke: Symptoms include high body temperature (106 degrees or higher), hot, dry skin, rapid and strong pulse and possible unconsciousness. Medical assistance should be sought immediately. While waiting for help, the victim should be moved to a cooler location. A cold bath or sponging could help reduce body temperature. Remove clothing and use a fan or air conditioner. Do not give fluids.
