Children learn about environment at Watershed Festival

Posted: Updated:

The Coal River Group hosted its first children's Watershed Festival in Tornado today.

More than 100 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Albans and Charleston visited Meadowood Park to spend the day learning about water.

The children circulated around seven stations, each focusing on a different environmental topic. Activities ranged from fly fishing to touching bugs.

"The greatest asset of these festivals is that kids can get their hands on bugs, on fly fishing rods," said Sara Cottingham, a Coal River Group representative.

The last station proved rewarding for the attendants: a sprinkler station.
