West Virginia American Water issued a news release Saturday afternoon to say it is working to maintain water service to as many customers as possible after a Friday night storm that left about 500,000 West Virginians without power.
The company's Kanawha Valley system serves Kanawha, Boone and Putnam counties and its Kanawha Valley Water Treatment Plant is "fully operational," according to a news release from West Virginia American Water.
"Crews have been working around the clock since last night's storm to deploy emergency generators to remote sites including water storage tanks and booster stations that remain without power," reads the West Virginia American Water news release.
The company advises that come customers in the higher elevations and on the furthest ends of the system in its three counties may experience low water pressure or a disruption in water service until power is restored to those parts of the system.
"Crews are working non-stop to manually visit the approximately 75 remote sites within the Kanawha Valley's 250-remote site system that have lost power or lost communication with the plant control room," according to the news release. "Unfortunately this process is currently hampered by downed trees and power lines, which makes some sites inaccessible at the current time."
West Virginia American Water has stationed a water tanker for customers without water at the South Charleston Rec Center. Customers are asked to bring their own containers to fill.
