Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared a state of emergency Saturday for the entire state of Ohio after heavy storms left many residents without power.

AEP Ohio issued a news release Saturday stating 573,000 customers were without power and about 1,300 AEP Ohio and outside line resources have been devoted to the restoration. According to AEP Ohio, wind speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour were reported.

About 900 line personnel already were working in the affect areas, according to AEP Ohio, and the remaining resources will be assigned to affected areas throughout the service territory. AEP Ohio also has put more than 300 various support personnel in the restoration effort.

Of the AEP Ohio customers who remain without power, more than 312,000 are located in central Ohio. Franklin County was the hardest hit area with 198,000 affected customers.
