Ohio Firefighter killed while assisting traffic accident

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a volunteer firefighter that occurred around 2:30 am Sunday, while at the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

Rocky E. Dunkin, 24, a Nile Township Volunteer Firefighter, was at the scene of a crash on U.S. 52 near Friendship, Ohio, while assisting medical personnel with the crash victim.

Dunkin was found unconscious at the scene by a fellow firefighters, and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:15 am.

The incident is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Portsmouth Post.
