Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
Members of the West Virginia National Guard have been deployed across the state since Friday night to aid recovery efforts following a line of severe storms that swept through the area.
Team have been sent to Wirt, Wood, Jackson, Mason, Putnam, Kanawha, Lincoln, Fayette, Raleigh, Greenbrier, Webster, Upshur, and Grant counties to work with local and state authorities to assess damage and coordinate the response of the WVNG.
Crews are currently working with the Department of Forestry and the Department of Highways to reopen roads that are blocked by debris. Guard members are also out providing fuel and generator support to some of the state's critical infrastructure such as water treatment facilities, hospital, nursing homes, and cooling stations set up throughout the state.
19 Health and Wellness teams have also been dispatched to check on local citizens assist state and county Emergency Operations Centers in assessing the need for supplies in some west Virginia remote areas.
