During a time like this, Cabell County is utilizing its Emergency Operations Center.
The EOC is staffed with anywhere between 6 to 20 people.
They include those from 911, Emergency Management and the Health Department.
The purpose of the center is to help take some of the pressure off of the 911 Center and its operators.
Workers at the EOC can direct things like EMS and the Fire Department to locations where they are needed.
They emphasize to residents that to only call 911 for true emergencies.
If you have questions about shelter locations, power outages and where to get water you are asked to call the EOC at 304-526-6544.
The county has drills and meetings throughout the year to prepare for events like the current power outage situation.
"We discover our deficiencies and that is the purpose of the drill is to discover things there so when the real thing comes like now it helps us," said Gordon Merry, Cabell Co. EMS Director.
Later in the month Cabell County will have a major disaster drill.
