Wheelchair users search for places to charge chairs

Posted: Updated:

The power outage has been causing problems for people who are wheelchair bound.

Many of the chairs have to be charged in order to operate.

Joe Gwinn lives in Clendenin and had to go to the local fire department for help.

He said without electricity in the neighborhood it has been difficult to find a way to keep his wheelchair functioning.

"I just headed this way and went to a friends house and he wasn't there so I came on down here to the fire department and they said I could get some water to drink," Gwinn said while sitting at the Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department charging his chair Sunday afternoon.

People have also been having problems with their oxygen tanks. Firefighters say they are having to refer patients to outside agencies because all local resources have been depleted.
