Thousands still without power in WV, OH, more heat expected

Power companies still are working on a large number of power outages around the region.

As of 8:45 p.m. Sunday, 258,005 customers remained in the dark in the Mountain State, according to the Appalachian Power website. As of 8 a.m., American Electric Power Ohio reported 415,000 outages. Sunday's thunderstorms caused an additional 20,000 outages across the state.

Friday's storm that packed 75 mph and heavy rains wreaked havoc with the power company's infrastructure, according to the website.

More high temperatures are expected for the area today, according to the StormTracker Weather team. A heat advisory has been issued for much of the region. Temperatures are expected to reach 95, with the heat index topping 100 degrees.

More storms could be in store for the area too, according to the StormTracker team. Today, we have a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms.
