Charleston Area Nutrition Center serving up meals to residents without power

Posted: Updated:

The Charleston Area Nutrition Center served more than 400 meals to people Monday. Volunteers are working again, but on a limited basis.

A staff of just six people is cooking up the meals, and four of them don't have electricity themselves.

The site is located at the Tiskelwah Center on the 600 block of Florida St.

"Standard Food Company is stocking all of our locations back up again. Semi-trucks were loaded up yesterday evening and we're just waiting to get all the food in, and preparing to the best of our ability what we have on hand to make sure they at least have a good hot meal," said Randy Byrnside, the manager of the Charleston Area Nutrition Center.

The center expected to serve more people Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.
