HAMLIN -

Cooling stations, like the one at Duval Elementary, remained busy Tuesday afternoon, as families sought respite from the heat.

There were, however, several families who chose not to leave their homes for cooler places.

"I've had some attempted home invasions," said Lincoln County resident Mike Schmidt. "I won't leave it."

Schmidt claims his neighborhood has seen too many burglaries in recent weeks and months to leave his property unprotected. He estimates the temperature inside his trailer reaches above 115 degrees.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Greg Hensley said there has been an increase in the number of breaking and entering complaints.
