Supplies like batteries, gas cans, and generators are in high demand and stores are having trouble keeping them in stock.

On Tuesday, the Lowe's in Barboursville got an emergency shipment of 120 portable generators to hook to appliances.

The store went through 100 generators after the storm hit, and replenished the stock with this recent shipment. This supply is slowly dwindling down and they expect it to be sold out within the next day or so.

"We had a courtesy call list saying that we had the generators in and you need to get to the store as soon as possible to get yours. It's been on a first come, first serve basis. We haven't had a mad rush, but it's been a steady of people coming in and getting them," said Lowe's assistant store manager, David Atkins.

If the supply doesn't sell out, Lowe's plans to ship the excess to a store that needs it.

Atkins also had some tips on generator safety:

  • Generators should be placed outside because of carbon monoxide
  • Shut the generator down to refuel them due to risk of fire
  • Don't put the generator inside a garage because of fumes
  • Talk to an electrician before hooking up to a circuit breaker
