Officials are warning anyone with recent storm damage to their homes to watch out for scams.

Dale Oxley from Modern Home Concepts said Wednesday that it's important for residents to do some research when contracting a company or individual for cleanup work.

Among the recommendations from Oxley is to make sure that the person hired is licensed and insured. "It may be just a gutter or something minor but if they don't have insurance and break a window in the process, then you're out that process," said Oxley.

Contractors admit that repairing damage to a home is dangerous work and should only be attempted by a professional, especially when electricity is involved.

A local homebuilders association is a good resource for background information, licensing and insight about a contractor's reputation.
