Lewisburg business owners hoping for big crowds at Greenbrier Classic

The severe weather has caused some problems for businesses in Lewisburg that were hoping get a boost from people stopping by The Greenbrier Classic.

The annual PGA event has become something that merchants look forward to each summer, but the June 29 storm knocked out power to most of Greenbrier County and damaged some businesses.

Electricity was restored to the Lewisburg area on Wednesday and businesses have now reopened. The first Greenbrier Classic brought in approximately $111 million to the local economy according to the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Business owners would like to see that kind of success this year, and many have positioned themselves to attract as many customers as possible. "We had a shop in Fairlea last year and we saw all of the traffic going by. So this year we will be right smack in the middle of you know all of the tourists and the PGA members that come down," said Angie Lehrbass from Deep River Creative.

Many also hoping that high profile golfers like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Tom Watson will help bring in larger crowds to this year.
