Greenup County E-911 Center to upgrade communications

Posted: Updated:

The Greenup County E-911 Center has applied for and received a $26,500 grant.

The grant is through the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security.

It will help with sheriff frequencies which covers rural parts of the county.

There are two radio towers that are not linked together which will be on one system.

It will allow for better communication and response time.

"Back 10 years ago there were not that many officers on duty, now they do. Now if they are separated in different parts of the county they can't talk on that system. This will allow us to have one system. No matter where they are in the county they will be able to hear each other," said Buford Hurley, Greenup County E-911 Center Director.

The system is expected to be up and running around September.
