Meals on Wheels drivers watching out for Huntington residents in extreme heat

Posted: Updated:

As temperatures continue to climb and the power crews continue to work on restoring electricity to the region, many agencies that help homebound residents are struggling to keep up with the demand for services.

Drivers with the Huntington Meals on Wheels program said Thursday that they're trying to drink plenty of water, stay in air conditioned areas as much as possible and they're on the lookout for residents who appear to have be in trouble as a result of the extreme heat.

They said there are signs that someone is in trouble. "When people aren't doing the same thing that we normally see them doing everyday, so that gives us an alert," said Jay Johnson, a driver with Meals on Wheels.

Most drivers make about 45 stops each day.
