Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, D-W.Va., made a stop at Metro 911 of Kanawha County Thursday evening for a progress report on storm recovery.

He toured the operations center despite the fact that it suffered a lightning strike earlier in the afternoon which knocked on radio service.

Tomblin said that power crews coming in from other states are making the difference in getting electricity restored to residents in many areas, ahead of schedule. "Both First Energy and Appalachian Power both have over 1,000 workers on the ground here. We have gone from 688,000 homes without power, down to about a little less than 250,000. Hopefully that number is lowered after the work they completed today," said Tomblin.

Tomblin also said that once the state of emergency is over, he plans to gather state and local officials together for an assessment of government response to the storms.
