Several places in Kanawha County remain open as cooling stations today.
The list includes schools, fire stations, and recreation centers, but the Kanawha County Public Library also opened its doors to people seeking relief from the heat.
Director Alan Englebert said the library, which is located on 123 Capitol St., has offered extended hours since Sunday.
"We opened as part of the emergency response simply to give people a place to come to get out of the heat," Englebert said.
People without electricity can seek refuge inside the air-conditioned library, where they can also use the building's computer and wi-fi for free.
Englebert added that almost 50 people per hour enter their doors—a number far higher than most days.
The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, July 7. Visit their website at http://www.kanawhalibrary.org/ for a complete list of hours.
