Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
Boone County Sheriff's Office has filed warrants and charged a man in connection with the theft of over 1,000 feet of copper and aluminum wire from an area hit hard by recent storms.
The Sheriff's Office had received tips from concerned citizens in the Toney's Branch are of Bloomingrose, WV that a man had wire lying at his residence which was believed to have been stolen.
When police arrived they found several hundred founds of copper and aluminum wire that appeared to have been taken from electrical utility lines in the area. Once collected, officials from Appalcahian Power Company confirmed that the cable was their electrical wire. Investigators believes that the wire came from the Prenter area of Boone County.
Charged is Robert Graham Powers, 22, of Seth. He is charged with felony charges of damage or destruction of public utility company property which carries a 1-3 year prison sentence and up to $5,000.00 fine, and grand larceny which carries 1-10 years in prison.
Sheriff's investigators and security official with Appalcahian Power have joined forces in an attempt to combat theft of electrical cable, which is even more important during these times of severe outages.
