United Way of the River Cities announced funding for groups - WOWK 13 Charleston, Huntington WV News, Weather, Sports

United Way of the River Cities announced grant awards for 22 health and human service organizations. The funding will support 23 programs in United Way's five-county service area for the 2012-2013 year.

The organizations that were chosen help United Way with its community work in its four focus areas. Those areas include learning and learning, families and children, health and wellness, basic needs/unforeseen hardships, and support in the safety net services.

United Way of the River Cities service area is Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln and Mason counties in West Virginia and Lawrence County, Ohio.

The 2012-2013 funded partners by focus area are:

Families and Children

• Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Tri-State
• Developmental Therapy
• Goodwill Industries, Family Counseling Program
• Kiwanis Child Care Center
• Mason County Family Resource Network, Brain Under Construction Zone SM project

Health and Wellness

• Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road, Live Healthy Lead Healthy Program
• The Healing Place
• Prestera Center, Renaissance Place
• Special Olympics, Cabell County

Learning and Earning

• Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Huntington, Power Hour Program
• Boy Scouts Tri-State Area Council, ScoutReach
• Goodwill Industries, Life Skills Training
• River Valley Child Development Services, TEACH Program
