The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an informational meeting July 17 to discuss the proposed Upper Monongahela River Service Reduction Plan.

The meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the WVU National Research Center for Coal and Energy Assembly Room 101 A/B on the Evansdale campus.

Agenda items include Inland Marine Transportation System (IMTS) Guidelines for Establishing and Implementing Levels of Operating Service on the Upper Monongahela River, Monongahela River Service Reduction Program Proposal and Timeline and concerns of Upper Mon River stakeholders.

According to a news release from the Upper Mon River Association, the proposed plan may include severe restrictions or reductions to recreational boat lockages at the Hildebrand and Opekiska locks and reductions in Morgantown lock operations. Impacts on commercial passages will also be outlined. Public input, they said, is important as the USACE reviews the options available.
