UPDATE

Road crews reopened I-64 to traffic just shortly after 4 p.m.

The West Virginia Division of Highways confirmed the road was reopened after being closed for crews to repair high tension powerlines.

I-64 was closed in both directions at about 2 p.m., according to information from the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The repair of high-tension power lines was supposed to begin at 12:30 p.m., but started late.

Plans are for the Interstate to be closed for an hour while Appalachian Power crews repair the lines.

 


ORIGINAL STORY

 

The West Virginia Division of Highways is planning to close all lanes of Interstate 64 near Huntington for about an hour this afternoon.

Appalachian Power crews need to repair a high-intensity wire spanning the Interstate between exits 8 and 11, according to a news release from the DOH.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured at exit 8 and can reenter the Interstate at exit 11, the news release states. Westbound traffic will be detoured at exit 11 and can reenter the Interstate at exit 8. Drivers can follow the "Truck Route" signs.
