Six regional elections meetings over the next few weeks will bring elections officials face-to-face to discuss voting issues.
The West Virginia Secretary of State's Office will host the meetings that began July 9 in Berkeley Springs. Other meetings take place July 10 in Morgantown, July 11 in Buckhannon, July 23 in Chapmanville, July 25 in Lewisburg and July 26 in Parkersburg. David Nichols, who serves as the Elections Division manager for the secretary of state's office, will attend each meeting, along with other elections specialists from the office.
"We wanted to have meetings around the state to make it easy for election officials to attend," said Secretary of State Natalie Tennant. "No county clerk or election official will have to drive more than two hours to their meeting. And it's important to have this face-to-face contact as we move closer to the election. It offers time to network and have questions answered quickly."
Topics up for discussion include the early voting process, voter registration and poll worker training. The secretary of state's office is also planning a training session for county clerks and election officials on the Statewide Voter Registration System, a database containing information on all voters in the state. The three-day program will begin August 20 in Flatwoods.
Early voting for the November 6 general election will begin October 24 and end November 3. For information on early voting or voter registration information, visit www.wvsos.com.
